let's just be up front about it: i'm a desperately high-maintenance person, no matter what kind of relationship you have with me.
i'm so very well aware of it
and i'm so very sorry for that--it's one of my faults.
i'm pretty sure i need too much most of the time
and i require a lot of work in places and situations where really i should only need to be told. probably only once
but my confidence is very, very delicate; it breaks easily.
and it doesn't help when it has help
but... i just want to make an apology for being so much work...

Confidence is tricky. It's like a house of cards. It's very difficult to build up. It takes patience, gentleness, and time. And it can be bowled over by the tiniest things. But if you get some support, you can keep that house up.
